Botanista is exactly the kind of bar you want to move into your neighborhood. Completely cozy, filled with friendly faces and offering the cool cocktails you need at the end of a long summer day in Spain—perfectly-balanced and infused with botanical elements.

BAR BOTANISTA

On location in barrio El Carmen

Building a photo archive

In a one-day shoot, photographer Ernst Berlin and I created a photo archive of the Botanista space and menu for their social media. We made sure to capture both the atmosphere and the personality of the bar. For instance, this shot with a tiny piano the owners found in a vintage shop. (It reminds me of the Tom Waits song “The Piano Has Been Drinking.” And it would be a very lucky piano to drink an Old Sesamum—their version of an old-fashioned with notes of toasted sesame seeds, golden raisins and butter.)

Shooting on the fly

When shooting on-location, we always scout the best surfaces and props found natively in a space. We want the shoot to truly tell the story of the location. Luckily the Botanista is impeccably decorated with gorgeous tropical wall paper, marble top tables and a wood bar. We took advantage of all of the props and surfaces available and then some! This coconut cocktail photo was taken on a mirror we pulled from the wall.

The Customer Perspective

We always include shots that help the customer visualize themselves in the space. Action shots of the cocktails being mixed and hands holding glasses add energy to social feeds and gives the viewer a bit of FOMO to make them excited to visit. We definitely recommend stopping by for a cocktail.
